I am writing to say that I do not support the Government’s plan to introduce a licence to punt. I do not want my play to be tracked and I don’t want to be forced to get a card to play a poker machine. I also do not want the government limiting how much of my own money I can access in pubs and clubs. It is un-Australian.
Problem gambling is an area of concern for the community and problem gambling needs to be addressed by government. However, any government response should be evidence-based and not treat all players as problem gamblers.
Introducing a licence to punt on the pokies will simply drive problem gamblers to other forms of gambling, including online. The clubs and pubs I visit cannot afford to implement this new technology and they will have less money to spend on community activities and thousands of jobs will be lost.
I ask you to consider my privacy, my rights and the importance of local clubs and pubs and not support to the proposed licence to punt legislation.
